01Working today
Already doing the daily work.
All of this works in RanchPilot today, checked against a demo ranch with two years of records. It is open to any rancher: use it in your browser or get the Android app.
-
Working
Records at the chute, with no signal
Weigh, treat, preg check and move cattle with zero bars. Every entry saves to the phone first and syncs on its own when you’re back in range.
-
Working
Every species you run
Eighteen species, from cattle, bison and sheep to goats, horses, pigs, poultry and rabbits, plus a custom one. Each has its own gestation, weaning age and the right word for every stage.
-
Working
Flocks, lots and litters
Keep a laying flock or a litter as one group: head count, deaths, daily eggs, weights, whole-group treatments and sales by the head. Pull any animal out when it earns its own record.
-
Working
Breeding status that explains itself
Wondering why a cow is marked bred? Tap her. RanchPilot shows the breeding, exposure and preg check behind the call.
-
Working
Withdrawal and booster reminders
Treatments carry their withdrawal dates for meat, milk and eggs, so you know who can ship. Boosters come due on their own from the first dose.
-
Working
Inventory that counts itself down
Give a shot and the dose comes off the shelf. Record an AI breeding and the straw comes out of the tank. You see what’s left before you run short.
-
Working
Money by the hundredweight or the kilo
Sales in $/cwt or price per kg, cost per head, break-even and a plain profit and loss, in your own currency. Hands can record cattle work without seeing the books.
-
Working
Grazing in animal-unit days
Animal-unit days, rest days and days of grazing left on every pasture, in AU or your country’s own grazing unit.
-
Working
Market values
RanchPilot reads USDA Market News reports from sale barns near you and puts a ballpark range on every head, by class and weight, refreshed every morning. It learns from your own sale tickets and shows which barns and sale dates it used. A ballpark, never an appraisal. For cattle on US ranches, starting with sale barns in Alabama, south Georgia and north Florida; more regions are coming.
-
Working
Weather and calving warnings
The ranch’s forecast on the Today screen, and a warning when a hard freeze, cold rain or heat lines up with cows due or able to calve, with temperatures you choose. National Weather Service data, US only.
-
Working
Rain records
Log your own rain gauge, even with no signal, and see totals against the same days last year. Where your gauge doesn’t cover a day, it fills in from the nearest official, airport or volunteer station, named, within 25 miles. US only.
-
Working
Ranch map
Your pastures on aerial pictures, colored by what they’re doing. Draw a pasture by tapping its corners, mark water, gates and rain gauges, and save the pictures to use with no signal. Satellite and Topo come from each country’s own free government maps: aerial photos and a topographic map in the US and Mexico, a topographic map in Canada and Australia. Street works everywhere.
-
Working
Weather radar and map layers
Tap Radar on Today and the last two hours of National Weather Service radar loop over your own pastures, so you can see rain coming before you head out (US only, needs signal). Tap Layers on the ranch map or the fence planner to put Satellite, Topo or Street under your pastures.
-
Working
Fence planner
Draw a fence on an aerial map and get its length and a full materials list: posts, braces, wire and gates. Barbed wire, woven wire, electric or polywire, with an optional cost from your own prices. Satellite and Topo come from each country’s own free government maps: aerial photos and a topographic map in the US and Mexico, a topographic map in Canada and Australia. Street works everywhere.
-
Working
Photos on every animal
Take a photo or pick one from your phone, up to 24 per animal. They wait on the phone with no signal and upload later. Location and camera details are removed before a photo leaves your phone, and only people on your ranch can see them.
-
Working
RanchPilot reads your receipts
On Money, tap Scan a receipt and photograph each page, even with no signal. It uploads later. Then tap Read it for me: RanchPilot reads the vendor, date, total, tax and lines and suggests a category, then the expense form opens filled in for you to check and save. It flags a receipt whose numbers don’t add up. 100 reads per ranch per month. The pages are read by Greenbow’s assistant, which keeps no copy. Owners and managers only; hands never see it.
-
Working
Snap the calf notebook
On Breeding and births, photograph the pages of your calving notebook, even with no signal. They’re kept with the ranch and wait until you tick that you’ve entered them, or set them aside. Hands can do it too. Next: RanchPilot reads the handwriting for you.
-
Working
Last seen
On an animal’s page, tap Seen to record where you saw it. RanchPilot names the pasture you’re in from your phone’s location, or you pick one, and the page shows when the animal was last seen. If the last sighting is in a different pasture from the record, it says so and offers to record the move. It works with no signal.
-
Working
Ask for help
Type a how-to question on the Help page and get a short answer from the RanchPilot guide, with links to the sections it used. It can’t see or change your records.
-
Working
Crew roles
Owner, manager, hand and view-only. Invite them with a one-time link. Hands record the cattle work and never see a dollar figure.
-
Working
Quick calf entry
One row per calf, with the mother typed the way you say her tag. Twins are recognized, the sire fills in from her breeding record, and it all saves at once, even with no signal.
-
Working
Tags the way you say them
“Yellow 14”, “Y14” and “Y0014” all find the same cow. Retag her and the old tag stays on file.
-
Working
Calving watch
Older cows and any cow that has had milk fever are watched around calving, with a check reminder after and a down-cow card that calls your vet in one tap.
-
Working
Tag reader scans
Readers with a keyboard mode type scans straight in, and RanchPilot checks each electronic tag number. A direct Bluetooth link to readers and scales is still coming.
-
Working
Quick notes
Say or type what happened, and RanchPilot turns it into records you check and save.
-
Working
Ranch tours
Tap Start a tour when you head out to check fences and water. Your phone traces your route on the ranch map while RanchPilot is open on the screen, with or without signal. Mark a problem where you find it, like a wire down or a dry tank, and it is pinned on the map. Finish with your ranch’s own checklist and notes, and turn any problem into a task with one tap. Tracing with the screen off is still coming.
-
Working
Task alarms
Give a task a time and up to two alarms, sent by email to the person the task is for. Tasks can be changed after you make them. Alarms on the phone are coming.
-
Working
Three languages
English, Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese: every screen, the sign-in pages (which follow your phone’s language, with a Language picker) and the full user manual in Help.
-
Working
Your ranch logo
A ranch can upload its own logo, as a square badge in the top bar or a wide banner across the top of every screen.
-
Working
A sortable herd table
On a tablet or computer the Herd table sorts by any column, tag number first, and you choose which columns show, including dam, sire, date of birth and color. The herd list has a Calves filter.
-
Working
Serial numbers, ear tags and marks
An animal can carry up to three ear tags, and RanchPilot records where each one went. Every animal also gets a permanent serial number with one list per species (C-000001 for cattle, for example) that stays with it for life. A Distinguishing marks box (a white blaze, a star, a split ear) is searchable.
-
Working
Reminders that show up
Due dates, boosters, withdrawal dates, low stock and your own tasks, all on the Today screen. Year-round calving works: each cow’s due date counts from her own last calving.
-
Working
Your records stay yours
Export every record any time, as CSV or JSON, with no lock-in. Made a mistake? Undo keeps the history of what changed.
02Coming next
Where it’s headed.
This is the plan. The ranch map, fence planner, weather, rain records, photos, last seen, receipt reading, notebook photos, quick notes, ranch tours and task alarms are already working, and each item below moves up when it ships.
Bring your ranch over
-
Import from the apps you use nowComing
Bring over your herd records, history, money and pasture boundaries from the herd and grazing apps you already pay for, or from a spreadsheet, with a dry run before anything is saved. For now Greenbow Labs does the move by hand for each ranch.
Faster entry in the field
-
RanchPilot reads your calf notebookComing
Notebook photos already work: snap the pages, even with no signal, and they wait until you’ve entered them. Next: RanchPilot reads the handwriting and lines up the births for you to check and save.
-
Photo timelineComing
Compare an animal’s photos across its whole life, side by side.
-
Bluetooth tag readers and scalesComing
A direct Bluetooth link to tag readers and scales, so the tag and the weight drop in with no typing. We’ll test with real devices first.
Your land, mapped
-
Grazable acres, worked outComing
Draw a simple box around a pasture and RanchPilot works out what’s grazable, leaving out open water and dense woods, so stocking math runs on real grass.
-
Land parcelsComing
Pick your property parcels from public county records and use their lines as your ranch outline.
-
Rain by pastureComing
Rain gauges on the ranch map, and rainfall shown pasture by pasture.
-
Forage planting advisorComing
Tell it what you plan to plant. It weighs soil temperature, frost and rainfall history against current conditions to suggest the best window, cool season and warm season.
-
Hay reserve plannerComing
See how much hay to hold back in case winter grazing falls short, and how much is safe to sell.
Know where the money goes
-
Multi-year money trends, on your fiscal yearComing
Year-end reports and five- and ten-year trends with charts, on the fiscal year your ranch actually runs on, so winter hay lands in the right year.
Plans can change as ranchers tell us what matters most. Follow along on the development updates page.
03Why it exists
Built by a rancher who needed it.
RanchPilot started on a working cattle ranch in Alabama. Its owner kept paying for ranch apps that stalled: clumsy to enter data into, no help at the chute without a signal, and records spread across apps that didn’t talk to each other.
So Greenbow Labs built the one they wanted. It already runs on their own ranch, and early-access ranchers come after.
- Your data is yoursExport every record any time, as CSV or JSON. No lock-in.
- Nothing silently lostUndo keeps the history of what changed and who changed it. Retag a cow and her old tag stays on file.
- Built in the openYou shouldn’t have to wonder whether your ranch app has been abandoned. See every update →
